Bonne Esperance Story

A Bonne Esperance House Heritage Inn is located on Gower Street in the heart of downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, not very far from the Fairmont Hotel. Each of the houses is a Victorian style 3-storey with bay windows on the first and second floors and peaked dormer windows on the third floor. The front door steps lead directly onto the sidewalk.

The houses at 16, 18, 20 and 22 Gower were built after the Great Fire of 1892. The city of St. John's archives show 20 and 22 were there in 1897, while 16 and 18 were built somewhere between 1898 and 1900. Today, Regina Anthony is the owner of 18, 20 and 22, formerly single-family dwellings, which are now a Heritage Inn.

Behind the properties, there is a creation of a fairyland garden. A pie shaped piece of land, which goes back 130 feet, has been turned into a downtown garden complete with winding walkways, wild ivy and colourful flowers. The peaceful garden is an inviting place to sit on a sunny afternoon to chat, read or simply enjoy.
